compiling nmap

I’m setting up a new Linux machine, and while compiling nmap, I noticed the following fly by:

   ( ) /\ _ (
    \ | ( \ ( \.( ) _____
  \ \ \ ` ` ) \ ( ___ / _ \
 (_` \+ . x ( .\ \/ \____-----------/ (o) \_
- .- \+ ; ( O \____
                          ) \_____________ ` \ /
(__ +- .( -'.- <. - _ VVVVVVV VV V\ \/
(_____ ._._: <_ - <- _ (-- _AAAAAAA__A_/ |
  . /./.+- . .- / +-- - . \______________//_ \_______
  (__ ' /x / x _/ ( \___' \ /
 , x / ( ' . / . / | \ /
    / / _/ / + / \/
   ' (__/ / \
NMAP IS A POWERFUL TOOL -- USE CAREFULLY AND REPONSIBLY

Somehow, I’ve never noticed this before, but I love it. (Well, except for the misspelling of the word responsibly).

  1. Fyodor Says:

You must be compiling an old version of Nmap for some reason? That typo was fixed in 2006:

fixed typo in nmap ascii art, minor addition to service-probes

Or, since it flew by quickly and was off my screen before I could really react to it (I was installing a bunch of packages on a new machine), I cheated by simply googling “nmap ascii art” and copying it from another website which was still around from 2006. I guess I should always make sure to check my sourced before impugning someone else’s spelling.
